Elena, Celine, Karen and I spent a weekend exploring a bit of the New South Wales coastline. With the car roof rack packed, thumbing through our pocket size 'wavefinder' book we headed south.....

Jervis Bay is well known for its white sand beaches and abundant wildlife -
we found lots of both.

wallaby, lorikeets, kangaroos (dolphins not pictured)

We made camp at Jervis Bay, a beautiful national park on a peninsula,
flanked on one side by a large bay and on the other, the ocean of course.
The bay side offers snorkeling and lazing around....
the ocean side offers something a bit more exciting....

'Aussie Pipeline'
A good south swell was running, so we had a chance to surf at several different beaches and to watch the line up at Summercloud aka 'Aussie Pipeline.'
This is a serious spot - we're not worthy..............yet
Back at the camp, we were graced with rather friendly camping neighbors who asked us upon our arrival as we were unpacking our assortment of boards & beach assessories if we were the "Team Billabong Girls." How's that for a pick up line?! I'm not sure who's fantasy of that was bigger - theirs or ours! The giggles continued as they proceeded to burst the campsite water pipe as they drove their tent stake through the ground....lots of laughs.
On our way back to Sydney, we stopped at 'the farm' -
and as Celine proclaimed in her charming french accent
"it's a beauty!"

recommended by a local as a nice surf spot, but tricky to find -
we were determined and after asking three times -
including golfers on the green
and locals at the dump with their fridges and broken lamps in hand -
we finally found our way -
and it was well worth it!
a near perfect line up of peeling waves,
not crowded at all (by Sydney standards),
no wind, friendly locals and beautiful scenery.
we were in heaven.

last one in is a rotten egg!

Celine took me a bit too seriously (and was so excited) that she couldn't even wait around for the group photo!

We surfed until dusk.
