I recently made the trip up to Byron Bay to join Richard and Diane on a dive weekend. Byron is probably most known for it's 'alternative lifestyle' (unfortunately, the hippies and surfies have been over run by yuppies and backpackers) and excellent surfing. However, our weekend focus was diving an area called Julien Rocks about a kilometer off the beach. We were hoping to see some leopard sharks (seasonal visitors) and the huge Manta Rays, but had to settle for turtles and lots of colorful fish instead - and a few 'gummy sharks' (harmless sharks that seem to do little else than nap on the bottom).

Our group stayed at this lovely B&B in a tropical jungle - complete with mosquitoes and the rare green tree frog.
