Exploring new country
Three spirits met
Joined as one
Fuelled by the sun & sweet rainwater
For 5 days and 5 nights
They roamed the land
At times barefoot and bare-chested
They returned to themselves
They left behind yesterday’s papers and mobile phones
And set off on a journey
Walking in loops, they always returned back to where they started
Which is where one always wants to be
Same, same but different
They stopped and admired many great wonders on their travels….
Large teeth as big as small camel-melons
Baby trees surviving off 5 mls of love
Giant black ducks that stretched across the night sky and
Families of shaggy emus and shy kangaroos
They stopped and listened to many great things….
To flowing water in the arms of young branches
To the sound of wind whispering over ancient lunettes
To songs from the heart of young inspired men waging revolutions
And the flopping of fish on quiet river nights
For five days and five nights they….
Lost their breath at pink dusky skies and red-ember mornings
Celebrated magical non-birthdays they will never forget
Read poetry under hot skies whilst eating peu de bateaux rouges de poivron ont rempli de choses délicieuses
Navigated by the stars and told time by the sun
Studied like archeologists and spread good will like ambassadors
Flung their worries into the vast night sky and breathed in stomachfuls of hope
Felt humbled by the history of the earth and their place in it
Soaked up the land and its culture like wee on a sand dune and
Listened to silence
Most importantly
They were just
Happy to be
And so the three spirits returned home
Dusty and refreshed
With opened eyes and warmed hearts
