At one point with the combination of color and smooth shadow, the moon appeared as if it might be a new planet - the 3 dimensionality of the sphere was very distinct - just like in the SciFi movies - no aliens or spaceships materialized, though.

red side of the moon
We were treated last night to a complete lunar eclipse which slowly unfolded over two hours. I was lounging in the reclining benches across from the Opera House to watch the spectacle. Unexpectedly, the moon in the earth's umbra shadow appeared red!
At one point with the combination of color and smooth shadow, the moon appeared as if it might be a new planet - the 3 dimensionality of the sphere was very distinct - just like in the SciFi movies - no aliens or spaceships materialized, though.
