Sydney's northern beaches hosted a women's pro surf competition over last week - which means the top 16 women surfers in the world were right here at our doorstep (or beach front rather). What a thrill to see them in action! The competition was stiff - and with a range in experience from 36 year old veteran & 7 times world champ Layne Beachley, to an upstart 19 year old rookie. Not only is Layne an international icon of women's surfing, but she's also a local here - I've been hoping to see her surf (or surf next to her!) ever since settling in Manly - and not only did i get to see her compete, but got her autograph AND a photo of us together (thanks Elena!). Winner of the comp......last year's wild card & defending tourny champ, Stephanie Gilmore, 21 years old & on fire!
