In true Australian tradition, we put our pencils and tools down by late morning and packed up the van to head into town to watch the race and place our bets. Now, I'm not the betting type, but the atmosphere at the pub was such that I decide, what-the-hey, let's place a bet -- well, three maybe even. I had a good look at the list of 23 horses in the race and picked Americain as the one to win. (I also picked another one to win as a separate bet -- and a bet for the top three finishers, which I chose two of the three correctly). In the end, I won $77! I think that's beginners luck....now what if I had bet $100 instead of just $5.....
